My journey to becoming a lactation consultant began when my first baby did not latch on for six weeks. I got contradictory advice from nurses and healthcare professionals, but with determination and help from a wonderful lactation consultant, I was eventually able to meet and exceed my breastfeeding goal. As I delved deeper into breastfeeding resources (including books, the internet, and lactation professionals) during that experience, I became passionate about breastfeeding. When breastfeeding became easier and I developed a wonderful nursing relationship with my baby, I also became passionate about helping other parents avoid some of the challenges I had faced, and empowering them to reach their own breastfeeding goals.
While raising my three children from babies to young adults, I became the leader of a mother-to-mother breastfeeding support group, a certified lactation educator, a WIC breastfeeding peer counselor, and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. I have been helping other mothers with breastfeeding, formally and informally, for 15 years.
I live on Long Island and enjoy podcasts, fantasy novels, and yoga. In my former life I was a web designer, but now I leave that to my husband, who designed this site. Contact dan@dansokolow.com if you’re interested in learning more about his services.
